Is subletting legal in Michigan?

Yes, subletting is legal in Michigan.  However, if the master rental agreement contains provisions that specifically prohibit subleasing, then a tenant may not sublet the rental unit.  In addition, tenants will need to ensure that subleasing doesn’t violate any housing or occupancy codes.
