What Happens If a Landlord Does Not Return the Security Deposit in Hawaii?

If a landlord in Hawaii does not return the security deposit within 14 days from the move out date, the landlord forfeits the right to make deductions from the security deposit and must return it in full. If taken to small claims court, the landlord may be liable for the tenant’s costs of suit and attorney’s fees plus triple the security deposit.
