Can a Tenant Change the Locks in Montana?

Montana tenants cannot change their locks on their own without prior permission from their landlord. Doing so may result in an immediate eviction notice being issued. However, this risk can be mitigated by providing one’s landlord with a new spare key as soon as the lock changing process is complete.
