In Texas, a landlord has 30 days from the move out date to return the security deposit. If the landlord is retaining some part of the security deposit, the landlord must also provide the tenant with a written statement of the deductions within the same timeframe.
Note, however, that the landlord may require advance notice of surrender of the premises as a condition before the security deposit may be returned if this condition is included in the lease and is underlined or is printed in conspicuous bold print in the lease.
