Yes, a lease can automatically renew in Alabama. Most rental agreements will automatically renew when the initial tenancy period is over. Past this point, the lease becomes a month-to-month agreement. In some cases, such as if rent is being paid weekly, the lease will become a week-to-week lease.
Once the contract becomes a monthly or weekly lease, the landlord must give the tenant a 10-day notice in writing to terminate the tenancy (AL Code § 35-9-5 (2019)).
